A Retrospective of Childhood Fishing in the Mid to Late 90s

My one experience of consisted entirely of fishing at Lake Eildon when I was 10 with my uncle and my cousins whilst on our family's annual Easter trip. I put some bait on - some carp fishing tackle, flung my borrowed rod in, propped my fishing rod up on a forked stick in the sand and promptly got bored and decided to build a sand castle with my cousin. Of course, this led to a bite on my rod which I sprinted back to deal with and with great struggle, I managed to discover that what I had actually caught was the remnants of a tree under-water. To my disappointment, my six-year old cousin managed to catch what was supposedly some (probably under-sized) Brim, which was literally the only catch of the bloody day. With my pride hurt, I managed to will myself to helping out with the cooking of it, which inevitably led a hassle of de-boning and scaling and nearly dismembering fingers in order to taste the deliciously bland meat underneath. Such nostalgia is almost making me want to pick up a rod for myself, actually.
